Traditionally, joint replacements were made from a combination of plastic and polyethylene, and lasted anywhere from 12-20 years. Beginning in the 1990’s, however, certain companies began manufacturing joint replacements out of ceramic materials, advertising a longer lifespan for the joint than their counterparts.
